My wife had her interview on Friday, which seemed to go rather well. She already has a second interview scheduled for Tuesday (tomorrow). The hours would be weird (includes some nights, some weekends), but I think it would be a good starter job for her, as it would actually be something in the field she is interested in. So I am excited to see what comes of it.
And, of course, if she gets the job, we get to celebrate by going out to eat. :)
I finished reading the fourth Harry Potter book last night, and I read the first chapter of the fifth book as well. I am holding on to some slim hope of finishing the fifth book before the movie comes out (in like 2 1/2 weeks). But, you never know.
Saturday was all-day card day, which I always enjoy. I played 4 games of Lord of the Rings (which I won 3 of), 4 games of Star Trek (which I lost all of), and 1 game of Reclamation (which didn't really finish). The Mac Man and our frield Troy also played a game later on. The decks we used for Reclamation were the same decks I had played with in Ohio, so they weren't completely up to date. However, here are some things I still need to tweak.
- Once a player gets behind, it can be hard to catch up. Maybe there needs to be a rule (or cards) that give advantages to players who are behind.
- Since the Heaven cards are the only ones that can control battlefields (which a player needs to do to win the game), I may need to make the Heaven cards in general stronger. If all players' Hell sides are dominating, the game will never end. I also thought about adding in some kind of turn counter - someway to automatically make the Heaven forces continually stronger as the game proceeds, to help reduce the chances of a stalemate that never ends.

Yes indeed, I very much like the new feature of the day. And you thought that idea had no potential! Keep it rolling, C-Dog!
And to comment on Reclamation a bit more. Some of the interesting "Son of Jacob" combos and the human Hell combos are pretty card intensive. The problem with that is that when you have to discard cards from hand to play them, you can often only play one or two cards per turn.
For instance, a typical Son of Jacob character costs 3 cards, so adding in the card itself, you have to discard almost half of your hand to play 1 guy. Assuming you have even just 3 total cards that you want to keep in your hand (for both Heaven and Hell sides), you can now only play one more card that costs 2 cards (because the last card is the card itself), which often isn't enough for another guy.
This means that if you want to keep a particular card or two to play that you can't afford at the moment, it comes at the expense of your other other side. So, both end up suffering. If you have a temporary act that you want to play as a possible react that has a cost, you get hamstrung really fast because now you always have to keep a bunch of cards in your hand just for that.
Perhaps one partial solution would be to give everyone a certain amount money/twilight/force/whatever we're calling it each turn that doesn't require discarding cards from hand. Perhaps 5 or 7 or 10 (depending on how fast you want the game to move along). You could still keep the discarding cards mechanism as a way to increase how much you can spend, but at a cost. It gives the risk/reward aspect a bit of a boost. If you want to make it simpler to remember, you could say the default amount is only available during creation or corruption, so you don't have to remember how much you've used for multiple phases.
I also think part of the problem with that may be that cards are simply too expensive. When using the discard-cards-from-hand approach to paying for cards, playing a card in itself is a cost, because it means you can't discard it to play something else. A lot of acts are already free, but characters in general should probably become cheaper (maybe mostly 1-2 each).
I could also have each player start out with some cards in their plunder pile, to give each Heaven army a little boost at the start of the game.
Hmmmmmm....
I freeze to death each and every time I see Tim just because I have to make sure it's not some random girl....
That's it, no more bedtime stories for you!
Okay, that's way too harsh. I understand how important those are to you.
I mean, not everyone got to see you rocking back and forth in the fetal position, sucking your thumb, and crying for Mom when I told you we had to turn the lights off when we went to sleep that night at TEC.
How's that potty trainer working out for you? ;-)
It's wonderful! I was finally able to train Brandon to be a big boy and use the potty. He still cries about the lack of bedtime stories, and we're both anxiously waiting for our books....
